Third Sentence Thursday: Travels in the Scriptorium by Paul Auster

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme which waits with bated breath for third sentences from all over the world!

1) Take the book you are reading now and post the third sentence
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence here (in the comments) or if you don't have a blog, just post it in the comments!

This week, my Third Sentence is from this book that I picked up out of curiosity and because I thought the cover was strangely interesting.  Travels in the Scriptorium is the first book I have read from Paul Auster and you will soon know what I think about it in my book review.

"We were well into the season of white suits by then, but the air that day had been especially hot, bearing down with such stifling heaviness that even the thinnest clothing felt excessive"  -page 70

Review:  It's hot, hot, hot!  That's how it felt here in the Philippines in the past few weeks, with summer in full force and scorching the country, turning everyone into a delightful shade of golden brown.  But now, rainy season is officially here and it's been raining all day for a couple of days now.  So white suits are out now, and in with colorful umbrellas and jackets.

Third Sentence Thursday: Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme which waits with bated breath for third sentences from all over the world!

1) Take the book you are reading now and post the third sentence
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence here (in the comments) or if you don't have a blog, just post it in the comments!

This week, my Third Sentence is from Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott.  You will soon read my review about this beautiful and haunting book.

"She is still watching the sky."  -page 69

Review:  Reading this line reminded me of The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson, and actually, there was something about this book that reminded me a bit of The Sky.  This line also evoked hope, which the protagonist of this book seems to have lost, as she *WORDS HIDDEN TO PREVENT SPOILERS*  It would be best if you read this yourself.

I can't believe it's going to be Friday tomorrow already!

Third Sentence Thursday: One Day by David Nicholls

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme which waits with bated breath for third sentences from all over the world!

1) Take the book you are reading now and post the third sentence
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence here (in the comments) or if you don't have a blog, just post it in the comments!

This week's Third Sentence is from the book, One Day by David Nicholls.

"They'd be millionaires by the time there were twenty-five, Callum insisted, but what would it sound like in a bar? 'Actually, I refurbish computers.'"

Review:  When you started your career, did you really think about how your job would sound like when you talk about it in a bar, or any ultra-cool place/event?  Because if I tell anyone, 'I'm a nurse' people here would look at me and think that I'm such a servant.  Whereas, I used to want to become a lawyer and if that actually worked out, 'I'm a lawyer' would then come off as sounding too high-falutin' and people here would look at me like I'm such a nerd.

I guess I'll be better off saying, 'I fight forest fires.'  Now that sounds every bit humanitarian, honorable, and HOT.

So what do you do?

Third Sentence Thursday: The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme which waits with bated breath for third sentences from all over the world!

1) Take the book you are reading now and post the third sentence
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence here (in the comments) or if you don't have a blog, just post it in the comments!

This week, my Third Sentence is taken from the classic, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.  I've been pretty interested with its story ever since I heard about it when I was in high school, however, I was only able to get my own copy recently and I really enjoyed reading it.
"It has a perfect host, and a perfect library."

Review:  PERFECT LIBRARY!!!  What book lover would not love that?  And add to that, a perfect host?  That is so awesome.  Now, if only that perfect host looks anything like this guy:

Remember Jeremiah, Blaine's crush who works at the GAP store on Glee?  That actor's Alexander Nifong.

*swoon*

Third Sentence Thursday: Zombicorns by John Green

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Sniffly Kitty's Mostly Books for treating third sentences with the dignity they deserve!

This week's theme is Third Sentence Review.

1) Take the book you are reading now and post the third sentence
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence here or if you don't have a blog, just post it in the comments!
4) Prepare for next week's theme: To be announced

My Third Sentence for this week is from Zombicorns by John Green that I got free of charge as John put it under a creative commons license so it could be shared.  It's his first zombie apocalypse novella so it must be really funny and interesting!

You may download your own PDF copy of this book here in his Eff Yeah Nerdfighters Tumblr blog

"I wondered what we had in common aside from having lived this long."

-page 55, Zombicorns by John Green

Review:  I have not yet read any part of this book apart from that sentence so as this is a zombie apocalypse story, living itself is such a luxury and these two people are very lucky indeed.

Third Sentence Thursday: Bandits by LM Preston

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Sniffly Kitty's Mostly Books for treating third sentences with the dignity they deserve!

This week's theme is Third Sentence Review.

1) Take the book you are reading now and post the third sentence
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence here or if you don't have a blog, just post it in the comments!
4) Prepare for next week's theme: To be announced

My Third Sentence for this week is from Bandits by LM Preston.  Ms. Preston contacted me and asked me if I would like to read her book and write a review.  She's actually the first author ever to ask me to review her book!  I'm so thrilled to  finally receive this book in the mail and now I am going to share something out of this book with you because I really think the plot is awesome.  I am looking forward to reading it!

"Now it's your turn to watch and learn, and I'll make sure we all live.  Ha hah."

Review: I'm going to try to review this sentence without any idea about what's going on yet as I have yet to read this book.  Whoever is saying this is sounding very sarcastic as they are probably in some grave danger and they are trying to get out of it alive, with the previous attempt ending rather unsuccessfully.  And if the person is being sarcastic, that means that he/she is not really the one who could get them out of that particular mess, right?  It's like they do not have a choice anymore.  That 'Ha hah' right there is such a funny phrase dripping with sarcasm.
I will be reading this book soon and will tell you all about it immediately!

Third Sentence Thursday: The Pilot's Wife by Anita Shreve

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Sniffly Kitty's Mostly Books for beating back the forces of OTHER sentences!

1) Take the book you are reading now and post the third sentence
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence here or if you don't have a blog, just post it in the comments!

My Third Sentence for this week is from The Pilot's Wife by Anita Shreve:

"This is a masculine world, she thinks, with its odd bits of machinery, its briefing room, its tower."

-page 75, The Pilot's Wife by Anita Shreve

Review:  'She' is Kathryn, and she just learned that her husband - a pilot - had died on a plane crash.  This sentence I think showed that although she longed for her husband, she is not altogether that she is not as privy to her husband's world as she used to be, as she entered a room that she immediately classified as 'a masculine world' which might also mean to be 'not her world.'  I don't know if you would agree with me, but I think that couples automatically associate each other with every thing/place in their house - no matter if it's your garage, you think of your wife; you still think of your husband even in your closet.

Third Sentence Thursday: True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet by Lola Douglas

My Third Sentence for this week is from True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet by Lola Douglas:

"This is supposed to be fun, not the Spanish Inquisition."

-page 76, True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet by Lola Douglas

Review: At this point, our protagonist Morgan, a.k.a. Claudia was being bombarded by questions and a girl she did not like much came in to her rescue.  I though it was getting really catty with the questions and was actually as relieved as Morgan/Claudia when it was interrupted.  Most times, when you're with a different set of people, the curiosity gets the better of them that more often than not, they forget their manners and just dive in to ask really uncomfortable questions.  And most times too, you're already in a panic that you really have no power anymore to put a stop to it so it's really good to have someone step in for you and make them stop.

Third Sentence Thursday: Izzy's Popstar Plan by Alex Marestaing

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Sniffly Kitty's Mostly Books for treating third sentences with the dignity they deserve!

This week's theme is Third Sentence Review.

1) Take the book you are reading now and post the third sentence
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence here or if you don't have a blog, just post it in the comments!
4) Prepare for next week's theme: To be announced

My Third Sentence for this week is from Izzy's Popstar Plan by Alex Marestaing:

"At this point, he'll start banging his head on the table."

-page 80, Izzy's Popstar Plan by Alex Marestaing

Review: This part was one of the most hilarious moments for this book.   The head banger in question was Izzy's brother, Anders, who acted as her manager for her stint in the International Pop Star Challenge.  I wouldn't tell you more about why he's banging his head, but I assure you that this was not just funny, but for me is one of the defining moments for this book.

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Sniffly Kitty's Mostly Books for treating third sentences with the dignity they deserve!

This week's theme is Third Sentence Review.

1) Take the book you are reading now and post the third sentence
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence here or if you don't have a blog, just post it in the comments!
4) Prepare for next week's theme: Third Sentence Review

My Third Sentence for this week is from Me, Dead Dad & Alcatraz by Chris Lynch:

"I am not crying; I am not pregnant; I am big boned.  I am splashing water on my face because I am hot, not for any other reason."

-page 53, Me, Dead Dad & Alcatraz by Chris Lynch

Review:  Reading through most of this book, I know that this character is sort of self-centered and constantly in denial.  The problem here is that he had his hair styled differently and it did not come out right.  The character then tries to shrug it off and pretend to be indifferent when in fact the hair has been bothering him a lot, and because he hates being put on the spot or being the butt of jokes, yet too weak/cowardly to do anything about it.

Third Sentence Thursday and Follow Friday - Saturday Edition

As mentioned in my previous post, I got sick - took sick to blog, if you can believe that.  But I'm back now, and I'm going to make up for lost time.  Hence, late editions of two of my favorite memes:  Third Sentence Thursday and Follow Friday :D

First off, Third Sentence Thursday:

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Sniffly Kitty's Mostly Books to keep third sentences from rebelling from obscurity!

This week's theme is pick a third sentence that best describes your mood this week.

1) Find a third sentence that describes your mood.
2) Post a link to your sentence here or if you don't have a blog, just post it in the comments!
3) Find out how other people are feeling this week.
4) Prepare for next week's theme: Third Sentence Review!

My Third Sentence:

My sentence this week is from Life on the Refrigerator Door by Alice Kuipers, because I have an upcoming post about an interview I did with her, and I want those who are not familiar with her book get to know about it a little.

"A walk will be lovely.  Exercise and broccoli.  As you say, darling."

-page 140, Life on the Refrigerator Door by Alice Kuipers

I really need to go the healthy route right now, I hate being sick.

----------

And now, for Follow Friday:

Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee's View and this week's question is:

What makes up your Non-Human Family?

Does that include inanimate objects and made-up characters?  Because sorry, I do not have pets.  However, if the pet of another person that I am very close to applies, then I guess The Boyfriend's puppy named Puppy is part of my family.  Unfortunately, Puppy does not have any pictures yet, I'll take one the next time I come over The Boyfriend's house.

Another member of my non-human family is:

Of course, ARGH my bookish monster

He has been the one helping me review all the books I read and featured here.

I guess I have a totally lame life, I can't even have my own pet!

So that's it, Happy Weekend!

My Third Sentence for this week is from Tokyo Cancelled by Rana Dasgupta:

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Sniffly Kitty's Mostly Books for treating third sentences with the dignity they deserve!

This week's theme is review the sentence from your current read.

1) Take the book you are reading now and post the third sentence
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence here or if you don't have a blog, just post it in the comments!
4) Prepare for next week's theme: Weirdest Third Sentence!

My Third Sentence for this week is from Paper Towns by John Green:

"YOU WILL GO TO THE PAPER TOWNS
AND YOU WILL NEVER COME BACK"

-In the book, that sentence was found painted on the wall of a deserted building.  It was painted in red, but was painted over thinly with white, which makes it only visible when you point a light at an angle towards it.  I totally freaked when I got to this part and it really felt weird, but at the same time, there was a surge of excitement because this was another clue for the mystery.

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Sniffly Kitty's Mostly Books for glorifying the third sentences of these things we call books.

This week's theme is review the sentence from your current read.

1) Take the book you are reading now and post the third sentence
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence here or if you don't have a blog, just post it in the comments!
4) Prepare for next week's theme, which is going to be the same as this week's!

My Third Sentence:

Still from Wintergirls I am such a slow reader this week, what with all this holiday business.  But I only have a few chapters left so hopefully I can get this done before Christmas itself.  I really don't want to read about anorexia on Christmas dinner LOL:

"I am strong enough to peel off the paper wrapper, drop a hunk in the pan, and watchlistensmell it melt."  -page 150, Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson

Review:

Lia is an anorexic, and the sentence above is about her cooking for her mother and trying to ignore her hunger.  Anorexics are very hungry people, but they choose to ignore their hunger in order to keep themselves thin.  It's all about control, and anorexics have a lot of it when it comes to eating.  It's depressing, really, to deal with a person with an eating disorder.  They keep insisting they are stronger when they do not eat, they have this warped perception of themselves that if thinner, they'll be better.

And my funniest third sentence from Paper Towns by John Green:

"Renting a tuxedo seemed to me an excellent way to contract some hideous disease from its previous tenant, and I did not aspire to become the world's only virgin with pubic lice."
